Superhero Films: Ray Winstone Talks about the Intricacies involved with Reshoots
As times have passed, the superhero genre in movies has rapidly turned into the biggest cash cow in the film industry; there are numerous superhero films being made one can say like it is an assembly line. The actor also spoke on the reshuffling of scenes when he was portraying Dreykov, the almost stand-alone villain in Marvel Studios’ Black Widow.
In his statement, he employed the word “abuse” in regard to the way actors are treated while reshooting their scenes, which can explain the tense atmosphere as many reshoots are regarded as part of the film-making process that has a hefty budget.
“It wasn’t funny. It was good up to the point of having to reshoot scenes, then you learn that some theorists have come and said you should be toned down, you’re too strong. This is how things in Marvel turn out to be. It can in fact be very painful because you’re actually doing what you know to be the right thing.”
When Contracts Bring You Frustration
So much was his frustration that Winstone thought even to leave the production altogether. Unfortunately, that option was quite impossible due to the stringent contracts.
“I actually said, ‘They should recast, because this was all on my end.’ And you end up doing it one more time because you’re hiring to do it. Otherwise you end up going to court. It’s like a kick in the balls.”
Winstone, despite his frustrations, managed to complete the reshoots, and he finally finished his part as Dreykov, although the character had little impact on the audience.

Winstone’s observation is in many respects in the context of the growing discussion about the burden caused by the superhero film. It is true that these pictures enjoy a huge success at the box office but have no little or nothing but the monotonous and tiresome industry and actors and directors toiling within it.
