Odysseus Spacecraft Lands on the Moon – Special Broadcasting Samplers Sent Along
On Tuesday, October 10, 2023, *Odysseus*, the spacecraft developed by Intuitive Machines, was successful in its mission and landed on the Moon – the first American attempt since Apollo 17 in 1972. However, this was not only a technological breakthrough; *Odysseus* was in fact a significant major as well since it contained a mega mad time box.
### For the Art: A Tribute to Civilization’s Creativity Along With All Human Attributes
The time capsule aboard *Odysseus* contained all the trappings of the arts, including Michael P. Nash’s film (*Climate Refugees*) and the photographs from one of the most famous events in history, the Woodstock festival. The items included album artwork, such as covers for *The Dark Side of the Moon* by Pink Floyd as well as selected songs from strange albums.
### A Soundtrack for the Moon
The collection included songs by Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix, Marvin Gaye, Santana, the Chuck Berry, Sly & the Family Stone, Bob Marley, Janis Joplin, The Who, among others. Surprisingly, also brought by *Odysseus* were unreleased songs.
No one less than Dallas Santana has been the originator of the work:
> “Tracks that have never been heard, it has never been released at all.”
Now they are on the Moon, but the world will discover them.”
### Honoring 1969: A Pivotal Year
The music selection had been quite deliberate as it was centered around 1969 which is an important year in history due to events such as Woodstock and the Moon landing. In that context, this further emphasizes the vision of the mission whereby it is intended to honor human inventiveness and technological advances.
